On 15 July, the EU marked the EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis with a moving ceremony in Brussels and commemorative events across the EU. 🎙️ Speakers included:  Teresa Ribera, European Commission Executive Vice President  Lars Aagaard, Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities  MEP Antonio Decaro, Chair of the European Parliament’s ENVI Committee The message was clear: climate change is claiming lives, and we must act now to protect people, communities and ecosystems. 🌍 From Portugal to Romania, local events, organised by the European Climate Pact community, reminded us that while the climate crisis is global, its impacts are deeply personal. The EU stays the course with environmental and climate spending. The upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034 demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental priorities: 📌 ensuring that the EU remains a leader in the green transition 📌 setting a dedicated joint 35% spending target for climate and environment 📌 providing a strong basis for investments in the circular economy, nature restoration and water resilience 📌 ensuring that investments do not harm the environment though the enhanced “do no significant harm principle” 📌 mobilising national and private funds in support of environmental objectives 📌 helping to uphold our international obligations The 2028-2034 #MFF is well-equipped to help deliver on EU and international environmental goals. Tomorrow, for the EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis, we will honour those lost to and affected by the climate crisis during a special commemoration ceremony in Brussels. Last week, Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra visited the #InnovationFund project ACCSION, who is pioneering onshore carbon capture and storage in Denmark. By helping decarbonise a hard-to-abate sector like cement production and build vital infrastructure for CO2 storage, this project is driving progress towards climate neutrality. 🌍 📉
